The Diary of Somebody in Particular' by Bill Goldman Cat lovers just can't miss-out on this! It's 'Watership Down' meets madness and mayhem, when students and pimps, writers and artists, poets and prostitutes populate the fiction and arty suburb of Wychbury. Lilith the cat doesn't miss a trick, along with friends in arms such as Bogart, Fritz, Pug, Webley, D.C. Cat and Flynn, not to mention dogs, drunks, gypsies, tramps and thieves, as well as her Bohemian and aspiring nutcase owners Puff Puff and Banger. Hysterical moments to tragedy throughout, 'The Diary of Somebody in Particular' is a book with a beginning, a middle, and an end. A great read for any adult who has ever kept cats! Can be printed off and kept loose-leaf or after printing can be ring-bound. A cheap service from many High Street stationers, and present and protects your book very well. A great gift idea!

'The Foreseeable Future - A Cover-up Analysed' by Alastair Mankovich. Probably the ultimate conspiracy book of recent times. What links JFK, the San Andreas Fault, all the fish we live on from the first 400ft of the world's oceans, the Mafia, the Catholic Church, Black Holes, AIDS, UFO's, the emergence of a New Reich, and what Alastair Mankovic calls "Spontaneous Instability"? Apparently the same thing which links the genocide of a combined 27,519,000 South American Indians, including the slaughter of Souix, Crow, Blackfoot, Apache, and all other tribes of the American West, not to mention the unexplained disappearance of Frederick Valentich in a Cessna 1821 Aircraft in October 1978. As for Pope Paul II telling us years after the event, that the so-called Third Secret of Fatima told of him surviving an assassination attempt, well, that was only after Alastair Mankovich, author of this book, approached The Vatican and asked to be told, once and for all, the contents of the Third Secret of Fatima, which to this day remains such a sensitive issue. The reply from the Office of The Secretariat of State for The Vatican, on such a closed yet global issue, declined to give an answer. Can Mankovich do more than quote Queen Elizabeth II herself, who once told Royal aide Paul Burrell about the British establishment, "There are forces at work about which we know nothing". A chilling setnence that. A very chilling sentence indeed. Some odd notions here, but read this and you may come up with your own ideas too.

'The Tennant' by Paul Kureshi. A first collection of short fiction and poetry from a writer who can be dark, moody and brooding, to being wired-up to the mains with free-fall positivity. The opening story 'Seven', sees a man looking back on events in his life following the death of his mother, on the day the funeral looms. No punches pulled here; beautifully evocative, painfully honest and direct, this guy's on his own two feet and there are no crocodile tears here. Poignant, hard as nails, tough as old boots, he sees and continues to see the world as it is, not as the made-for-television movies portray it. Sometimes life sucks, and that's an end of it. This story alone is a gem, and dare we say there are touches in Paul Kureshi's work of Ian McEwans 1975 collection 'First Love, Last Rites'. All these stories are deep, analytical, and with a scathing insight into people, motivation, and the whole shebang. 'Vanessa's Friends' paints a first-class picture of the little-rich-girl who likes to slum it at weekends. Little do the ner-do-wells she mixes with know what she's capable of. Well, it's class innit? She's got it, they haven't. The fiction comprises of seven stories of in-depth atmosphere, but Kureshi's poetry is just devastatingly brilliant, without perameters and smacking every nail on the head with an incisiveness to behold. Sail up there with 'A Gull Inland', one of the best poems of it's kind we've ever read, raw as a gale and as descriptive as it comes. A superb use of language. Then, there's the devastatingly simplicity of 'Socialist Oppression in Eastern Europe', or else 'Nostalgia' where you wonder how he found the words. 'One Parent' finds he's said it all for you, or else there's 'How Sad', which leaves you wondering how anyone can say so much in so few words. Paul Kureshi is a poet first and foremost, and there are seven short stories and twenty three poems in this first collection. It remains to be seen where he goes from here, but, frankly for the poetry alone, most would have achieved a status we'd be more than happy with.

We could never have imagined what was to come years later. Other cover stories 'High Life: Around Highgrove', 'Clap Hands here comes Charlie', 'Royal Etiquette: For Whom the Knee Bends'. Condition externally extremely fair to good, internally very good to excellent.
£5.50 including p&p. Overseas customers see above.
November 1979 - Cover stories 'The Royal Boys', an astrological look at Elizabeth's likely successor. Also 'The Duke of Wellington's Family Album'
£3.00 including p&p. Overseas customers see above.
June 1980 - Leads with 'Princess Margaret and Colin Tennant' as reported from Mustique by Tina Brown, with the aptly titled 'Waugh Hero', which finds Anthony Andrews looking at his then plumb role as Sebastian Flyte in Evelyn Waugh's 'Brideshead Revisited' also nudging in. Also 'The Eccentricities of Ronald Firbank' and 'Their Finest Hours', in which famous names recall their finals at Oxford.
£3.00 including p&p. Overseas customers see above.
September 1980 - Here we look at 'Prince Phillip's Schooldays'. After he left Greece, Prince Philip went to Kurt Hahn's revolutionary school, which made him what he is today (that's a revolutionary then?) He tells biographer Denis Judd. With 'In a Class of their Own', we take a look at Aiglon, Cirencester and Roedean Schools (and we doubt much has changed in the last 30 years!) Whilst 'Lord Gnome's School for Scandal' sees Richard Ingrams and others from 'Private Eye' tearing about like St. Trinians terrors! Great stuff though!
£3.00 including p&p. Overseas customers see above.
December 1980 - One leader reads 'Things Go Better with Eddie Coke', as the Earl of Leicester's son was known to friends! If you think you're posh at Christimas it'll be worth reading 'Christimas with the Family', the Melchetts, the Packenhams, the Rothermeres and the Rothschilds go for traditional mode. You know how it is; folk with cash don't like spending it, and 'The Beast of Belgravia' tells about getting it all on tab in the Belgravia of the 1980s.
£3.00 including p&p. Overseas customers see above.
December 1979 - We hear about Dennis Potter versus the Pope in New York, and there's also 'The Hell Days of Christmas', which throws up some great stuff from Alan Bennett, Quintin Chrisp, Elizabeth Smart and Jeffrey Barnard. Also, simply titled 'El Morocco', in 1930s New York, the El Morocco was the place to be! A great write-up with some fabulous pics.
£3.00 including p&p. Overseas customer see above.
March 1980 - 'Blue-Blood Imports Now - and Yesterday', about the foreign beauties who have swept our Dukes off their feet. Also, a bit of a coupe in its day, Tina Brown meets Mandy Rice-Davies, friend of Christine Keeler, whose dalliance with John Profumo, British Secretary of State for War, cost Profumo his job and his Parliamentary seat back in 1963. The fact that Keeler was also seeing the Russian naval attache, Captain Ivanov at the same time, made Profumo's disgrace and exit a certainty.
£3.00 including p&p. Overseas customers see above.
May 1980 - 'Class and the English Wedding' - speaks for itself! 'Lady Hartwell', was she really such a dragon in May 1980? 'The Erotic Interior', it's sumptuous stuff this. Also 'Lunch Packs', where the influential cliques were hanging out at the end of the 70s (and where some still do!) All the usual Society stuff of the day.
£3.00 including p&p. Overseas customers see above.
February 1980 Features include 'The Amazing Lady Castlerosse', rising from a manicurist at the Savoy, to being the celebrated wife of the then most fashionable peer in London. The adventuress who dazzled society in the Twenties and Thirties, and who was famous for the exceptional foulness of her language! Anthony Burgess saw today coming long before it did, when he wrote 'Into The Eighties'. Comments also from Melvyn Bragg, Jill Tweedie, Ronald Eyre, Sir Hugh Casson, Lord Grade and others. Also 'Parlour Games', Auberon Waugh in Bangkok. 'Five Star People' by Martin Amis, among other stuff of the day.
£3.00 including p&p. Overseas customers see above.
March 1981 The leader here then, and tragically more so now, was 'The Lady Diana Set'. A two-page special about the friends of Diana Spencer, later to become Princess Diana, the wife of the Prince of Wales. Given the tragedy of all which came to pass, everything else in this issue seems almost inconsequential, but, at the time, no-one could have known. Also 'Manhatten Interiors', New Yorkers revealing themselves via their interior decoration. 'Princess Alice, The Last Victorian'. The very interesting and revealing 'Backstage Backchat' in which Nicholas Coleridge slips backstage at some London theatres from a sex show to the RSC, and records the 'noises off', and a write-up on the then darling of English flat-racing, Willie Carson in 'Willie's Winning Ways.
£3.00 including p&p. Overseas customers see above.

CORSETS?
Well, anything might crop up here, and this time it's corsets! One black, one white, but both entirely different. How do you size these things? Someone who's size 12 might conciously order a size 10, for reasons we don't want to know about! though may simply want to pull-in the tum abit, but either way we've got two corsets here, one largely tie-version, the other hook-and-eye. The white (hook-and-eye) we'd assess as a comfortable 10, and the black we'd assess as about the same, though a 12 might get in at a push! Whether you want these for fashion, genuinely "holding it in a bit", for reasons to make a sailor blush, or simply to put on display we'll put them out for
£7.50 each including p&p. (We'll resist the temptation to ask you for the photos afterwards!)

We have acquired a large number of photographs taken in India from the 60s onwards, which are a virtual documentation on their own. These are all one-offs, from 10" x 12" boarded or blocked prints, along with a number of boarded, but largely blocked prints 23 1/2" x 18 3/4", which are approximately 5/8" thickness.
We won't say too much, but suffice to say a German Officer fled Hitler's regime, ended up in India and married an Indian girl, before years later taking up a post as a German Consul. Between time, he chronicled various aspects of Indian life via the camera. At present we expect the cheapest, unboarded, unmounted print (we want to make some accessible to everyone) will be £7.00 plus postage and packing. At the other end of the scale (and still keeping prices realistic) some will be up to £100.00 plus postage and packing. This is a classic example of "When it's gone, it's gone!"
Initially, we're offering the first 23 1/2" x 18 3/4" block-mounted print marked Mahabaliduram, Arjuna, Ratha, at £15.00 Notice price reduction from £25.00. plus postage and packing (which we'll check ASAP).
